As of October 2013, we will introduce several international organizations that evaluate the quality level of engine oil.

ACEA

I believe some friends are familiar with it. It is the European Automobile Manufacturers Association, which was established in May 1991 to replace CCMC. CCMC is the European Common Market Automobile Manufacturers Association, which is the predecessor of ACEA and has similar functions to ACEA. The ACEA organization revises its automotive lubricant specifications every two years, and some of its indicators are consistent with the API. In addition, there is an organization called ILSAC, which is the International Lubricant Standardization and Certification Committee. It is jointly composed of the American Vehicle Manufacturers Association and the Japanese Automobile Manufacturers Association. ILSAC issued the testing specification GF-1 for automotive engine oils in October 1990.

JASO

The Japan Vehicle Standards Organization is also one of the institutions that evaluates automotive engines. It is composed of Japanese oil companies, additive companies, automobile manufacturers, and the Japanese government. The specifications developed are applicable to Japan and Pacific countries and are used to supplement API testing specifications.

The US military, German military, and French military have also established their own standards to ensure the quality of military oil.

In addition to the aforementioned international organizations, some famous automobile manufacturers have also established their own standards. For example, Cummins in the United States, Mercedes Benz in Germany, BMW, Volkswagen, Porsche, and Volvo in Sweden have all established their own oil testing standards, which are more stringent and demanding than API standards.
